Reactive power in paper production

“Paper production requires a lot of electrical equipment. The (toerengeregeld?) motors of these machines produce mainly 5th harmonic currents. This current flows between the transformers, main distribution frames and equipment, and does not contribute to the active power. As a result, the quality of the installation is disturbed and there will be unnecessary losses of energy. After undertaking Power Quality measures on various main distributors it became clear that we have a low energy efficiency within several machines and parts of our installation. Based on this data, we have decided to deal with both the reactive power and the distortion power.”

Optimizing energy efficiency
